It provides excellent practice for young readers learning to use the dictionary and empowers them to use it as a resource for spellings as well as pronunciations they don't know. First learning exercise I've ever seen that focuses on the pronunciation markings and guides in dictionaries; a worthy thing to learn to make use of this perennial reference guide.
