Here is an engaging demonstration of density that you can do with your young physical scientists. Place different rough surfaced objects into carbonated liquid. The carbon dioxide bubbles collect on the surface of the objects and increase their volume, thereby decreasing their densities. What is the result? They float! Once they float, some of the bubbles pop, and down they go back to the bottom of the bunch.
