A great year-round activity that shows young mathematicians how the math skills they are learning are actually used in the real world. This exercise also helps learners begin to distinguish the difference between weather and climate. As a class, record the weather from newspapers every day. Once a week, graph the daily highs and lows on one chart as well as the record highs and lows on another chart. Track this information throughout the school year to observe the changes in climate and weather.
