Column Addition Rules

Expanded column addition is when a child breaks down each place value into its component numbers then adds all the sums together. Present the rules of expanded addition to help learners understand what it actually means to add multiple digit numbers and provide an algorithm they may not have previously encountered. Note: This method is not for all learners and may be somewhat confusing.
