Students are challenged to determine values that are guaranteed by the mean value theorem. They sketch the graph of a function and show that it satisfies the conditions of the mean value theorem over a given interval. Students determine the domain of each of five functions and identify the relative and absolute extrema, inflection points, intercepts, and asymptotes. They find the volume of a hemisphere as a function of a cylinder that it's sitting on.
