C3 Teachers: Inquiries: Japanese American Internment

A comprehensive learning module on the WWII internment of Japanese Americans that includes three supporting questions accompanied by formative tasks and primary source materials, followed by a summative performance task. Students learn about why Japanese Americans were placed in camps and discriminated against, their experiences of how internment disrupted their lives, the Supreme Court case of Korematsu v. United States that challenged the exclusion policy, and they examine the complex question of how to balance the freedom of Americans against national security.
