When do teams want a strike? When they are playing this fun math game modeled after bowling. First, class teams roll four dice to generate the numbers they will use in that round, called a frame, of the game. Next, pins numbered 1 through 10 are knocked down by creating an expression equal to the number. For example: if the numbers rolled were 1, 2, 5, and 5 then one equation could be (2+1) + (5/5) = 4. Then, teams can manipulate the symbols to change the outcome of the expression and knock down all of their pins. Last, as soon as all expressions for the number set are written, teams can roll four numbers and play a second frame. Play continues until either time is up, or all four frames have been played.
