Get creative juices flowing when you allow groups to figure out a procedure for how to find the area of squares and rectangles. They may use the individual patchwork blocks, or they may design one using the Design Template.

Fifth graders research and record statistics on the economy of an assigned state. They create a spreadsheet in Excel to report the data and a 3D Pie graph using the Chart Wizard in Excel to represent their states' data.

Students design a geometric garden. Shapes to be included are squares, triangles, and hexagons. After reading a book together about shapes, students get to use construction paper to cut out and design their own shape garden.
