Students explore the concept of philanthropy. In this service learning lesson, students consider community service work they may complete when school is not in session.

Students examine the work that scientists have been doing to create artificial human parts.  In this exploratory lesson students research the human eye and brain using the Internet.

Students learn a line dance that corresponds with the recreational dance curriculum of North Carolina. They respond to directional cues and terms in folk an line dancing.

First graders explore the basic structures and functions of the human body and how they relate to personal health.

Students perform various throwing and catching activities to music with a partner, with one partner as the leader, and the other copying the movements.

Students perform various cardiovascular activities, then complete a worksheet that records their target heart rate.

Middle schoolers explore simple machines through a Webquest with Internet resources provided for research of simple machines. They create a report, with pictures, in Word, and finally, invent their own simple machine for presentation.

Students practice bumping and volleying the volleyball. They also explore how to under hand serve.

Fourth graders read the book, Phoebe The Spy, by Judith Berry Griffin. They complete comprehension activities, make predictions about what happen next, and create a PowerPoint book report for the story.

High schoolers study conscientious observers (COs) in the Civilian Public Service (CPS) during World War II. They explore how the media sources influence public opinion and policy makers, and complete a writing assignment about the topic.

Students examine the relationship between language and culture in the Deaf Community. They discover the history of sign language and how it has been viewed in the past. They examine the Deaf community's beliefs and values.
