James Earl Jones, the prolific actor and commanding voice of Darth Vader of Star Wars, died Monday at the age of 93. His stage and film career spanned more than six decades.

Born in poverty in segregated Mississippi, Jones became one of the world’s most celebrated actors on stage and screen.

Jones is one of few entertainers to be an EGOT winner, meaning he won each of the four major performing arts awards. (Scripps News)
