How can we estimate time? Have your young mathematicians make a clock. Then they compare and contrast types of clocks. They practice writing times in two different ways and make a book about telling time.

Students explore math facts.  For this calculation and math facts lesson, students play a board game in which addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts are practiced.  A copy of the game is included.

Students write the number line. In this numbers lesson, students write numbers in numeric order on a number scroll. They find patterns within this number line. 

Students examine numbers used in the real world by reading newspapers.  In this number identification lesson, students explore popular newspapers and attempt to find numbers in prices, temperatures, dates, sports scores, etc....

Pupils practice forward and backward counting.  For this counting lesson, students calculate how many objects in a bag by counting forward and then count backward to check.
