and Social Emotional Learning in High School: Relationship Skills

Social and Emotional Learning

in High School:

Relationship Skills

The Collaborative for Academic, social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies relationship skills as one of the five core competencies of social and emotional learning. Relationship skills include a number of different soft skills including but not limited to the following:

  • Communication
  • Social engagement
  • Relationship-building
  • Teamwork

High school requires students to have the relationship skills they need to work in book circles, as lab partners, in research teams, and collaborative project-based learning groups. Developing these skills enables teens not only to be success in school but also prepares them for life after high school.
