A variety of activities spark discussion and encourage creative and critical thinking in a unit designed to inform kindergarten through fifth grade scholars about human growth and development. Each grade level is presented with five lessons plus additional lessons to extend the learning process. Lesson topics include hygiene, healthy habits, cells, growth, the five senses, body awareness, personal safety, stranger awareness, self esteem, family roles, health care workers, nutrition, wellness, feelings, and living safely.

  • Display completed activities at Back to School Night or Open House 
  • Copy in color and laminate reference pages and award slips for continued use 
  • Take brain breaks playing learning games or reciting chants when class members are in need of a pause from current instruction

  • Send a letter to pupils' families to inform them of the activities that will take place
  • Ask for assistance if needed
  • If teaching upper grades, contact parents/guardians prior to implementing the unit's human body portion to obtain permission to discuss the lesson's topics with their children
