Second graders use fun plastic eggs to investigate mammals and non egg-laying animals. After discussion in the class they open plastic eggs with animal pictures inside and decide if the animal lays eggs. They observe the inside and outside of an egg and complete a T-chart. Students listen to several picture books about eggs and respond to related questions orally. Various extension activities are suggested in this plan, such as observing photos of a developing egg in real-time.
