Social and Emotional Learning in High School: Responsible Decision-Making

Social and Emotional Learning

in High School:

Responsible Decision-Making

The Collaborative for Academic, social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies responsible decision-making as one of the five core competencies of social and emotional learning. Responsible decision-making includes a number of different soft skills including but not limited to the following:

  • Identifying problems
  • Analyzing situations
  • Solving problems
  • Evaluating
  • Reflecting
  • Ethical responsibility

In our rapidly changing world rote learning can no longer prepare students for the challenges they will face. Instead, they must develop and practice the skills they need to be able to see the big picture and to consider the ethical implications of their decisions.
