EngageNY Grades 6 ELA Module 2B: Voices of Adversity
Collector:
Ann V.
Were things really harder back in the day? That is the question sixth graders research in a three-unit module. They read information articles and literature about the adversities of medieval life, and then draft an essay in which they argue whether young people today struggle with the same adversities. Over the course of the eight-week module, students practice the skills of summarizing articles, analyzing how writers develop their ideas, and participating in small group and whole-class discussions. The module ends with individuals crafting and performing a narrative, monologue or concrete poem about adversities faced by sixth graders today.
