EngageNY Grade 8 ELA: Module 3a, Unit 1: Building Background Knowledge: Varying Perspectives on World War II

Collector: Ann V.

The three units in Module 3A focus on Japanese-American relations during World War II and use Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand as the central text. The lessons in the Unit 1 collection ask eighth-graders to consider primary and secondary sources that present conflicting accounts and perspectives on the attack on Pearl Harbor. A fishbowl discussion, in which they present the information they have discovered, serves as an end of unit assessment.
