EngageNY Grade 7 ELA Module 2a: Working with Evidence: Working Conditions Then and Now
The three units in Module 2A present seventh-graders with literary and informational texts—Katherine Paterson’s novel Lyddie and a speech by Cesar Chavez—that examine historical and present-day working conditions. Pupils learn how to analyze how an author presents people, settings, and events to develop a central claim. They craft an argument, informational, and research essays, using evidence from the texts studied about working conditions. The final performance task asks scholars to create a consumer’s guide to working conditions in the modern-day garment industry.
