EngageNY Grade 6 ELA Module 3B, Unit 2: Narrator’s Point of View and Evidence of Author’s Perspective in Flush
Collector:
Ann V.
The 12 lessons in the second module unit examine how an author’s point of view and perspective is influenced by his or her geographic location. Florida resident Carl Hiassens’s young adult novel, Flush, about a young man whose father sank a boat that was polluting the ocean is set in the Florida Keys. The novel anchors the unit and his A Paradise of Scandals and Five Creative Tips from Carl Hiaasen serve as the core texts, as well. For a final performance task, scholars analyze an excerpt from the Flush for evidence of Hiassen’s perspective.
