Researching to Build Knowledge and Teaching Others: Inventions That Changed People’s Lives is an eight-week, three-unit module designed for fifth graders. In the first unit of the module, scholars examine and discuss a graphic novel, paying special attention to the structure, graphics, and images. In Unit 2, pupils continue to build their reading and writing skills and understand how new or improved technologies are developed to meet the needs of society. In Unit 3, individuals research invention and craft a narrative in the form of a graphic novelette that explains why the invention they researched was developed and how it changed people’s lives.
