This daily struggle is shockingly common in many areas of the...\nIf you are a kid and your bed is a lumpy, old couch or a cold, hard floor and you leave home for school without a regular breakfast, you will not excel in your classes. This daily struggle is shockingly common in many areas of the country and it sets many children on a downward spiral at an early age that is difficult to recover from. This is where Meals By Grace is making a difference.

This non-profit organization, in partnership with local schools and social workers, identifies students and families in need and seeks to help provide nutritional food for their homes and tables. They identify children who come to school hungry and take hot meals and shelf stable food to these children and their families so that they can eat during the week, weekends, and school breaks.

Volunteers meet every Sunday of the year to prepare meals in a central facility and then load up cars to distribute them to those in need in the community. This year they expect over 20,000 volunteers will help them prepare and deliver these much needed meals that help so many local families stay nourished.

But their efforts go well beyond providing food. This community has grown their program to also include helping families get back on their feet after setbacks in health or employment. They coordinate guided sessions in life and job skills to fill these gaps that circumstances may have created for families during difficult times.

Executive Director Suellen Daniels is the inspirational voice that is rallying her community to give their time and energy for others. “Volunteers come, fall in love, and they come back on a regular basis,” she noted with pride.
