Biology - Human Body - Learning Points. The large intestine is around 1.5m long and 6-7cm wide. The large intestine is home to trillions of 'good' bacteria that feed on the undigested food, or roughage, that enters it. As bacteria in the gut combine with undigested food mucus is added to create faeces. The faeces are then released into the rectum and eventually the anus, where it will be passed.
