The graph of a...\nIn this video math lesson we will learn how to classify graphs and equations as linear or nonlinear functions. We will define a linear function as a relationship between two quantities with a constant rate of change. The graph of a linear function is a line. We will review two important characteristics of a linear function. The graph of a linear function will be a straight non-vertical line. The equation of a linear function can be written in the form y=mx+b. We will define a nonlinear function as a relationship between two quantities where the ordered pairs for the relationship do not lie on a straight line when graphed. The graph of a nonlinear function will NOT be a straight line. The equation of a nonlinear function cannot be written in the form y=mx+b and will have a variable with an exponent other than 1. Student practice is included where we will identify graphs as linear or nonlinear. We will also practice classifying equations as linear or nonlinear. Exemplar solutions are modeled and explained.\n
