She previously worked as a middle school special education teacher in Sussex County, New Jersey....\nKathryn (Katie) Nieves Licwinko is an educator who is passionate about supporting the needs of all learners and educational technology. She previously worked as a middle school special education teacher in Sussex County, New Jersey. Within this role, she worked in the resource room, co-teaching, and reading intervention settings. She holds an Orton Gillingham Advanced Continuum certificate. Katie currently works as a Teacher/Coordinator of Educational Technology Integration for a school district in Passaic County, New Jersey. She is a Google Certified Innovator, Trainer, and Educator. She is part of the #VIA20 Google Innovator cohort. She is currently the founder and host of Assembling Inclusion, a podcast and platform celebrating all things inclusion.

Katie graduated with her B.A. in Elementary Education/Liberal Arts from Centenary University in 2015. She minored in English and earned four teaching certifications in elementary, middle school, and special education. She finished her M.A. in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University in 2019. Her thesis was a qualitative study about how access to 1:1 computing devices impacts the way in which special education teachers revise modifications and accommodations for their students with IEPs. In 2019, Katie enrolled in the Ed.D. program at New Jersey City University. She took on additional coursework to earn her supervisor certificate in 2020. In 2022, Katie earned her doctorate in Educational Technology Leadership. Her dissertation is an explanatory mixed methods study of special education co-teachers and how they integrate technology into the inclusion setting.

Katie has presented on various topics within educational technology, supportive learning strategies, instructional design, and special education at conferences and schools around the country. She has presented at national conferences, including ISTE, CEC, ITC, and AMLE, as well as state and local conferences. Katie is currently a share captain for GEG NJ. She was previously on the Executive Board of the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English and held the roles of treasurer, summer learning co-chair, and web coordinator during her time on the board. She also served for two years as an ISTE Community Leader. ​Her work has been published in Edutopia, the Journal of Special Education Technology, and the Google Transformation Center, among others. In 2020, 2021, and 2023, Katie served as a judge for the annual SIIA CODiE Awards. In 2019, she was named Sussex County ARC (SCARC) Teacher of the Year.\n
