She holds a BSc in Criminal Justice, an MSc in Human Relations and Business, and completed post-graduate work in Urban Policy and Administration. She is a graduate of two police academies and spent the equivalent of over one year throughout her 30-year career completing several law enforcement training and advanced instruction programs. She is also a graduate of the American University Key Executive Leadership Program (Experienced Leader) and the Federal Executive Institute’s Leadership for a Democratic Society residential program.
Lisa began her career in law enforcement as a Reserve Police Officer in the Texas Hill Country, and later became a full-time Police Officer in Dallas, Texas. Three years into her career, she became a federal agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and later with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (now, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and then the Office of Inspector General, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The last half of her career was in law enforcement management and leadership in the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she traveled the world leading international investigative teams.
