A pyramid is a 3-dimensional object having a polygon as its base and triangular surfaces converging at a single point called its apex. A pyramid derives its name from the shape of its base, i.e. a pyramid with a triangular base is called a triangular pyramid while a pyramid with a square base is called square pyramid, etc. The volume of a pyramid is given by one-third the area of its base multiplied by its height (the distance between its base and the apex). While the total surface area of a pyramid is given by the sum of the areas of all the plane shapes making up the pyramid.\n
