The first thing to know here is that there is no magic key to getting high-scores. Basically, you can’t game the system of IELTS. You need solid test strategies, a high level of English, and many hours of practice.

However, having said that, there are efficient ways to prepare, and wasteful ways.

I want you to manage your time in the most intelligent way possible, spending your valuable efforts on the quickest ways to increase your scores.

1. Speaking Hack- Pronunciation

All four Speaking categories are weighted the same- Fluency and Coherence, Vocabulary , Grammar and Pronunciation. Grammar takes the longest to improve, and Pronunciation is the quickest.

You do not need a native accent to get a high score. You simply have to be understood and use expressive intonation and emotion. Just those things will get you an 8!

2. Writing Hack- Cohesion and Coherence

As you have no idea what the writing topic will be, it is difficult to memorize the right vocabulary to get a high score.

However, you will use linking words and transition phrases in every single essay- for both Task 1 and Task 2.

So, you should learn and practice high-level, varied ways to introduce and link your ideas.

3. Listening Hack- Repetition

There are certain IELTS quirks that happen on every exam. One of these is that if you hear a repeated word/phrase, it is probably an answer.

For example, a question could be: Where did Paula see a doctor?

The speaker on the CD might say ”The St. John’s clinic was the closest, but Zoom Urgent Care was the cheapest. So, Paula went straight to Zoom.”

In this case, Zoom is repeated, and it is the answer.\n
