Students are fearful of being asked questions on the Speaking or Writing Exam about unfamiliar topics.

For instance, being asked about museums when you’ve never stepped inside one, or a work of art when you have never looked at art before.

Plus, topics that are new to you might make the reading or listening passages more difficult.

Thus, you should look at the list below. All the experiences are based on IELTS topics.

For any of those on the list that you’ve not had, add them to your study plan!

11 Experiences For IELTS Speaking and Writing

1. Visit a museum. Choose a favorite work of art.
2. Read a novel, or a graphic novel (comic book).
3. Try a sport (bowling and skating count!). Watch a game on TV (like the World Cup!)
4. Read the newspaper twice a week.
5. Watch a nature documentary featuring animals.
6. Cook a meal.
7. Try a new active pursuit, such as hiking or swimming.
8. Explore your own city, visiting a tourist attraction.
9. Explore another city that you’ve never been to.
10. Watch advertisements in English.
11. Take a trip on public transport.

As much as possible, make these experiences in English!

After you complete the activity, talk out loud about it for 5 minutes, in English.\n
