This clip is from the chapter \"Threading\" of the series \"C++ Standard Template Library in Practice\".All modern operating systems support the concept of multitasking, that is, the ability to handle multiple jobs simultaneously. It has always been possible to implement parallelism and concurrency with C++, but this was operating system specific. This does not mean that starting, controlling, stopping, and synchronizing threads was not possible, but it was necessary to use operating system-specific libraries, because threads are inherently operating system-related. Luckily, since C++11 we have a set of classes and utilities to support multithreading across a range of operating systems.\n
