Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common neurological condition involving impingement and compression of the median nerve of the wrist (median nerve travels through the carpal tunnel of the wrist). The compression of the median nerve can be due to increased growth of bones and/or increased proliferation of soft tissue surrounding the median nerve. Due to the compression on the median nerve, the median nerve does not function properly, leading to characteristic signs and symptoms in the median nerve distribution (area of the hand supplied by the median nerve). In this lesson, we discuss the risk factors and signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome along with how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.\n
