While cataloguing everything that made him great would take ages, there's a few important, enduring pieces of his musical vocabulary that stand out, and chief among those is the legendary Hendrix Chord. It appears in many of his most famous songs, serving as a structural backbone that tells you, unambiguously, that you're listening to Jimi Hendrix. It's a complex, difficult sound, and it pretty perfectly sums up the way he approached the electric guitar.
