Then she met her future partner, who at the time had been married to a man and raising children. The two fell in love and MJ got to know her new extended family — including her granddaughter, Genna Alperin. This story is part of our STONEWALL OUTLOUD collection. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in June 1969, StoryCorps is working to preserve the personal histories of members of the LGBTQ community.
