Lyrics: Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, Gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… There once was a herd of wildebeest, Who liked to eat well, who liked to feast, But each year the food source got depleted, As the land got dry, animals competed… It was time to leave, to start migrating, To where the grass is green, to where the good food’s waiting, They said it’s time, to go migrate, To find a place where the food supply’s still great! How about to the warmth of Mexico! They all agreed and prepared their wings, Honked goose calls, That’s how a goose sings… They took to the sky in a flying V, Stopped for rest occasionally… Picked up more friends along the way, Migrating was work, both night and day… Finally found, the perfect place with ease, where food was around and water didn’t freeze, A nice warm winter resting spot, Same place as last year, is it not? Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… When they gotta’ move, When they gotta’ go quick Animals are doing the migration trick, Flying, crawling, swim, or run, gotta’ migrate towards food or sun… Migration, Migration, Moving from station to station, When it’s time for traveling, Migration song is the song we sing… There once was a monarch, butterfly Flashing brilliantly as it fluttered in the sky, Summer’s blooming flowers, providing her with food, Always in a happy, good butterfly mood… But the fall brought the cool, and before the cold arrived, Monarch said, I better leave, Before the temperatures dives, Migrating, to go to somewhere warm, I could never survive, a freezing winter storm, I’ll follow the sun, Roost with friends along the way, Then I’ll find a tree, and some eggs I’m gonna’ lay, To hatch into larvae, that turn to butterflies, Who’ll fly back north, through the sunlit skies! Usually animals migrate to places that are warmer or that have better food supplies. Migrating animals generally travel during the same season every year. Many different animals migrate- some walk or run, like wildebeest, some fly, like birds and insects, and some swim, like fish and whales. Reptiles, such as snakes and sea turtles are also known to migrate. The arctic tern, a bird, is believed to have the longest migration of any animal. It is known to travel some 71,000 kilometers (or 44,000 miles) round trip from the arctic to the Antarctic every year.
