The...\nDr Mylène Dubiau-Feuillerac argues that Debussy was attracted to Paul Verlaine's poems because of their innovative character and the writer's attempt at \"dislocating the poetry\" in a more sonorous way than the text might represent. The last melody of the Ariettes oubliées (1903), 'Spleen', is an example of this essential intertwining of idea and structure of text with musical composition. This is a part of the conference, 'Debussy: Text and Ideas', which is available in full on the Gresham College website.
