Justin Lemire-Elmore and Anne-Sophie Rodet arrived in Tehran after riding their customised trike 5,500...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              A Canadian couple has completed an epic solar-powered journey across Europe, Turkey and Iran.\u003cbr/\u003e              Justin Lemire-Elmore and Anne-Sophie Rodet arrived in Tehran after riding their customised trike 5,500 kilometres (3,417 miles).\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              The sun is blazing in Tehran, so it's a perfect day for taking a spin on a solar bicycle.\u003cbr/\u003e              Looking on the bright side (and this is very bright), when the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius (104 F) you won't have to worry about running out of fuel while riding a solar-powered vehicle.\u003cbr/\u003e              Canadian couple Justin Lemire-Elmore and Anne-Sophie Rodet are quite used to sunny and hot days. They have pedalled and rowed 5,500 kilometres (3,417 miles) over 30 days across Europe, Turkey and Iran.\u003cbr/\u003e              Now they are in Tehran, which has become their final destination because they have cut their journey to China short for time reasons.\u003cbr/\u003e              Justin and Anne have modified and customised their vehicle by themselves. It is a three-wheeled, back-to-back tandem trike with two forward pedaling and backward rowing stations. \u003cbr/\u003e              A combination of rowing and pedaling enables them to vary the exercise during the journey so that they are not both doing the same thing. Also, the back-to-back configuration allows them to have their heads nearer together for conversation, at the same time providing a 360 degree view of their surroundings.\u003cbr/\u003e              Electric motors mounted on the two front wheels assist them in propelling forward when going uphill and the solar panels keeps their heads in shade.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We bought it used online. It was a tandem two-person tricycle but everything else, we built ourselves,\" says Justin.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"All of the structure, the solar panels, the electronics, the motors, those are all things that we built ourselves,\" he adds.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Vancouver-based couple is pedaling as part of The Sun Trip 2018 e-bike rally, an international event that challenges participants to ride from Lyon, France to Guangzhou, China using only solar-powered bicycles or tricycles.\u003cbr/\u003e              Participants can choose any route they want but cannot be supported by any vehicles tailing them.\u003cbr/\u003e              There are approximately 40 participants in this year's Sun Trip.\u003cbr/\u003e              Although Guangzhou is the final destination set by the event's organisers, Justin and Anne are leaving their journey unfinished because they are going to get married in August and need to make preparations fairly soon.\u003cbr/\u003e              They embarked on the journey in Lyon and have travelled through Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and finally Iran.\u003cbr/\u003e              Iran has been a unique experience, Justin says, in terms of people's hospitality and passion for foreign visitors.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Everyone wanted to take pictures, to find out where we are from, very welcoming. Everyone wanted to welcome us to their country and hoped that had a good time in Iran,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              A graduate of engineering physics, Justin has been involved in the field of e-bikes for 15 years.\u003cbr/\u003e              Ten years ago he rode 7,000 kilometres (4,350 miles) on a bicycle across Canada.\u003cbr/\u003e              He hopes their solar trike journey inspires viewers to reach for their dreams, however quirky those dreams might be.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The main message I want to give to people when they see something unique and original is just: why not?\"\u003cbr/\u003e              His partner Anne-Sophie is a professional unicycle rider who has previously ridden a unicycle for 4,600 kilometers (2,858 miles) in Patagonia, South America.\u003cbr/\u003e              She has loved the Sun Trip experience despite worries they had before coming to Iran.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I guess part of it is we want to give this message back that people have a wrong image of countries,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003e              The couple's dream is to row long distances in the ocean and they regard the solar trike journey as a warm-up.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I was watching them ride their tricycle and noticed how quiet this thing is and does not pollute the air. I loved watching them cooperate with each other to ride it forward.
