The life and works of the 20th century artist and sculptor have been digitised for a new immersive multi-sensory exhibition opening\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;(20th June...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              It's Modigliani as you've never seen before. \u003cbr/\u003e              The life and works of the 20th century artist and sculptor have been digitised for a new immersive multi-sensory exhibition opening  (20th June 2018) in Milan. \u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              The tiny introductory room of the new Modigliani exhibit at Milan's MUDEC museum gives a taste of exhibits of old: three Modigliani portraits sit among a collection of 20th century African sculpture that so deeply influenced the artist's and sculptor's work.\u003cbr/\u003e              But although Modigliani's original portraits are spectacular, the real star of the show is in the so-called experience room.\u003cbr/\u003e              Called Modigliani Art Experience, the entire space has been transformed into a series of screens. The immersive experience moves through the life and works of Modigliani in chronological order, from Livorno where the artist was born to the Parisian art scene that he dominated in Montmartre and Montparnasse. \u003cbr/\u003e              The early 20th century artist whose style as a painter and sculptor was distinguished by elongated necks and faces, died in poverty in Paris in 1920.\u003cbr/\u003e              Sections are further divided into themes: friends, women, lovers, paintings and sculptures.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The idea is to try to create a dimension of emotional immersion that is captivating at the same time, in our case we also want to try to bring the public to a greater knowledge of the artist, a greater curiosity on the visual works and on the specific qualities of Modigliani's pieces, much like it should be done for all artist, by going through the biography,\" explains Francesco Poli, Curator of Modigliani Art Experience exhibit.\u003cbr/\u003e              To create this multimedia experience Stefano Fake, artist and video designer at The Fake Studio was asked to transform Modigliani's art into digital elements.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"From a visual director point of view, I started with a phrase by Modigliani who said human beings look at the world through their eyes, they look at the exterior world, but also the interior world which is also why he painted people with an open eye and a shut one or sometimes with empty eyes or two shut eyes - because it showed the capacity of people to look at not only the environment, which we show in the immersive experience, Paris, Montmartre, Montparnasse, the world around him but also his capacity to look inside human beings,\" he explains.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"So I think we were able to give back in this immersive experience this contemplation of these faces and the people he painted showing the big humanity and love in Modigliani's art.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Hundreds of portraits of all shapes and sizes flash up - some slowly, some quickly, some with explanations and some without  - all to immerse the visitor completely in Modigliani's world and his art production.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We are living in a digital world where the reproduction of art is constant, all day long, through television, cinema, phone, so it becomes normal for us to try to unite these two worlds which apparently are very different – the world of digital, the most contemporary form of art currently used, immersive video, must be used to tell the story and strength of a painter from the past, so we may not be able to see the painting but we can see the strength of his paintings,\" says Fake.\u003cbr/\u003e              Music is also very present throughout the installation.\u003cbr/\u003e              According to curator Francesco Poli, the music not only accompanies the images, but is an integral part of the show helping visitors understand who Amedeo Modigliani was.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Music is very important, not only because it accompanies the multimedia event, but the pieces were chosen based on the cultural climate he lived in, beginning of the 1900s in Paris, there is Satie, a little bit of cancan, but there is also Italian music, Italian opera because he loved it and he was always singing, for example when he worked he often sang, also when he was a bit drunk,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003e              In a separate room, everything slows down as visitors are invited to study Modigliani's drawing process. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"It is the opposite of the spectacular, to underline how fundamental the drawing is, for all artists, but for Modigliani it is really fundamental, he is a great drawer, great portrait drawer, he was always drawing and creating portraits of people around him and that is underlined here,\" explains Poli.\u003cbr/\u003e              The final room is the mirror room, where once again images of Modigliani's works are shown, through a series of seemingly infinite mirrors.
