The exhibition is also showing how new technology can help elderly people stay...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN \u003cbr/\u003e              The latest products and innovations for people living with dementia are being showcased at the Alzheimer's Show in London.\u003cbr/\u003e              The exhibition is also showing how new technology can help elderly people stay in their own homes for longer.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE\u003cbr/\u003e              Potting the golf ball at the 18th hole, then making your way to the 19th hole for a pint.\u003cbr/\u003e              A familiar pastime for many people, but one that can prove more difficult for older people to access, especially those in residential care.\u003cbr/\u003e              But one company, Find Signage, has found a way of taking the golf course to the care home.\u003cbr/\u003e              Its dementia friendly and dementia specific products include colourful murals, such as post offices and shops, which are designed to enhance the care home environment and trigger happy memories for residents.\u003cbr/\u003e              Rob Windsor-Hey, new business development manager at Find Signage, explains how his business began 25 years ago. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"One of our customers is a leading care home operator and they requested that we produce signage for people with memory loss,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"So we studied and researched and created what became the world's first dementia specific signage.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Those signs are still used today and have clear, tactile and visual cues to address the most common issues faced by many living with dementia.\u003cbr/\u003e              However Windsor-Hey explains that the larger murals are \"not just about hanging pretty pictures on walls\".\u003cbr/\u003e              The company ensures the murals do not subject those in care homes to false realities. \u003cbr/\u003e              So interactive elements are added to them, such as the option to pot the golf ball on the golf course.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Interactions for example, like a post box or a pillar box to go with a post office mural. Punch and Judy shows to go with the seaside, things that are reminiscent of seaside, colourful chairs and things like that, that create a stimulating environment,\" explains Windsor-Hey.\u003cbr/\u003e              He adds that they can also help residents navigate their way around care homes, much as they might have done when living in a town or village:\u003cbr/\u003e              \"You turn left at the Post Office, right at the pub for example,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Also helping those with dementia improve their cognitive skills is the BAT Foundation's Alzheimer's Table Tennis Therapy.\u003cbr/\u003e              Its design team worked with neuroscientists to develop the world's first table tennis table designed specifically for those with dementia.\u003cbr/\u003e              Ian Craighton-Chambers, Creative Director at Bounce Alzheimer's Therapy (BAT) Foundation, says playing table tennis can have major benefits for those with the condition.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We've discovered that it's an awesome therapy for Alzheimer's. It delays the onset of symptoms, it reduces cognitive decline quite significantly and amazingly of course it's drug free and it's carer inclusive. So you've got young people, older people, all playing table tennis together and helping each other understand the condition,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              He says the Japanese call table tennis the world's number one brain sport. However for those with dementia it can have added benefits such as improving social skills, confidence and balance.\u003cbr/\u003e              Craighton-Chambers explains how they adapted a regular table to make it more user friendly, especially for those with the visual impairments which can be one of the first symptoms of dementia.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The side panels obviously keep the balls in play for longer, for the attention span of a dementia player. The white playing surface, we use orange balls so that works with the contrast. For people who are less able we use orange balloons.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The tables cost 2,295 British Pounds (approx. 3,050 US Dollars).\u003cbr/\u003e              Other companies at the Alzheimer's Show are aiming to keep older people out of care and in their own homes for longer.\u003cbr/\u003e              Birdie has created an Agency Hub and Caregiver App, which work alongside sensors and cameras in an elderly person's home, to monitor their health trends and raise alerts for families or care agencies when necessary.\u003cbr/\u003e              This could be a simple as calculating a higher than usual number of trips to the toilet.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They can easily input data regarding how much they've eaten, how much they've drunk and various other metrics, that can easily be sent over to the agencies,\" explains Robbie Heygate, a Full Stack Developer at Birdie.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"In parallel with that, we've also got a variety of sensors here that we install in the older adult's home, that are capable of tracking a variety of incidents and accidents that we see as core moments in the older adult's life.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              As well as helping elderly people to stay in their own homes for longer, Birdie says this system is aimed at taking time and financial pressure off care agencies.\u003cbr/\u003e              Another product aimed at those with dementia is the OM Interactive motion activated projection range.\u003cbr/\u003e              OM Interactive claims to be the first company in the world to introduce these light projections into Day Centres and Special Needs settings in 2005.\u003cbr/\u003e              It has since developed a range of powerful visual and aural sensory products designed to improve neurological pathways, communication skills, physical ability and wellbeing.\u003cbr/\u003e              Anna Park, Care and Education Consultant at OM Interactive says the products use motion activated technology.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It picks up your movement with a camera and affects the change on the projection.
