If those reports about a resignation letter are in fact true? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) We have a very strong relationship. I think what is true is we're both really frustrated. We need Congress to act. We at DHS (Department of Homeland Security) are committed to doing everything we can within the law, but the law is broken and the American people are frustrated and so are we. \u003cbr/\u003e              (Reporter) Was the president in any way personally frustrated with your leadership? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) Not that I believe so. No. I think he's just frustrated with the process. Right? I mean here's a president who has said continually we must protect American communities. And the reality is the law prevents him from doing so completely. So I would be ...\u003cbr/\u003e              (Reporter) In what way? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) Sure, sure. So there's lots of loopholes. All the loopholes that requires us to do catch and release. The loopholes that require us to release criminal aliens back into communities. The loopholes that do not allow us to keep gang members out of country. So you know it goes on and on and on. But he's made very clear to Congress this is the changes that we need to make to the law to protect our communities. And we just haven't been able to get Congress to act. \u003cbr/\u003e              (Reporter) What's the problem? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) I think it's--you know it's a timing issue. Perhaps meaning that they're just never in session right now. They take lots of recesses. They have other things to do. So we we encourage them to stay in session, get your job done.\u003cbr/\u003e              (Reporter) And the president has communicated this directly with the speaker? I mean there's a discharge petition. There is an effort beneath the speaker yet to rework this. Are you supportive of that? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) I'm supportive of anybody who wants to try to fix border security and a broken immigration system. I've had lots of conversations last few days. The president has as well. We'll continue to work with leadership. We need to get something done.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              3. I mean that's why they're separated because they're breaking the law. A lot of them are coming across the border and they're breaking the law. In the United States if you break the law you go to jail and you're separated from your family. Shouldn't be any different for illegal immigrants. \u003cbr/\u003e              (Reporter) Even people who are seeking asylum here they're fleeing? \u003cbr/\u003e              (Nielsen) Go to the port of entry. Camera points at ground\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE: \u003cbr/\u003e              Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Friday that she has a strong relationship with President Donald Trump. \u003cbr/\u003e              The comment came a week after Trump unloaded on Nielsen at a heated Cabinet meeting, railing against her for failing to stop illegal border crossings.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nielsen, one person said, tried to explain the issues were complex and that the department's powers were limited by a slew of legal restrictions. \u003cbr/\u003e              She told the president her team was doing everything it could, but the president was left unconvinced.\u003cbr/\u003e              The episode, first reported by The New York Times, left Nielsen on the verge of resignation, according to the paper, which also said Nielsen, the former deputy White House chief of staff, had drafted - but not submitted - a resignation letter.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nielsen also said that she and the president were frustrated by Congress' lack of action on immigration reform.\u003cbr/\u003e
