The monarch was scheduled to take part in a swearing-in ceremony for...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eHundreds of supporters of Catalonian independence marched through the streets of Barcelona on Monday to protest against a visit by King Felipe VI of Spain.\u003cbr/\u003e              The monarch was scheduled to take part in a swearing-in ceremony for new judges at Barcelona's auditorium later in the day. \u003cbr/\u003e              Protesters reached the security perimetre around the venue ahead of the king's arrival and were joined by students of Catalonia's Superior School of Music (ESMUC) who were escorted out a building next to the auditorium.\u003cbr/\u003e              Students complained they were forced by police to leave after they played music in protest to the king's visit. \u003cbr/\u003e              Without their instruments, they used their voices in protest, singing next to the police barrier, calling for independence from Spain. \u003cbr/\u003e              The issue of breaking century-old ties with the rest of Spain has divided the 7.5 million residents of the wealthy Catalonia region roughly in half. \u003cbr/\u003e              Pro-independence parties managed to maintain their slim majority in the regional parliament during local elections in December.\u003cbr/\u003e              The pro-independence parties have since been locked in drawn-out negotiations on how to form a government, with Spanish courts blocking efforts to reinstall fugitive former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont or elect other jailed separatists as regional head.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Barcelona - 9 April 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
