Boutique Design West (BD West) is playing host to over 300 exhibitors at LA's conference center,...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN: \u003cbr/\u003e              Designers are embracing recycled and repurposed materials at a hospitality design show in Los Angeles.\u003cbr/\u003e              Boutique Design West (BD West) is playing host to over 300 exhibitors at LA's conference center, many looking for the latest trends in hotel and restaurant design.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              The United States' hospitality design industry is gathering in Los Angeles.\u003cbr/\u003e              The two-day Boutique Design West (BD West) hospitality design conference and trade show is drawing together around 3,000 design professionals and over 150 design influencers.\u003cbr/\u003e              It's a chance for those in the industry to share the latest trends and consider what the future might hold.\u003cbr/\u003e              Exhibitors are showcasing everything from furniture, lighting and flooring, to fabrics, wall coverings and accessories.\u003cbr/\u003e              Organisers say the goal is for those in the industry to leave inspired.\u003cbr/\u003e              They're able to discover new products, find new ideas, and establish new relationships with potential suppliers.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We also want people to be able to touch that and feel that, so there's places where designers can make their own furniture,\" explains conference director Mary Scoviak.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They can go to a conference and they can hear some of the most important hoteliers in the industry, not only people who are established, but people who are up and coming.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Expert Gabrielle Bullock says one of the biggest challenges facing hospitality designers today is catering for people from so many different cultures.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think a lot of the big issues are centered around how do we design for people,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"How do we incorporate wellness, designing for wellness, designing for flexibility? Everybody comes from a different culture, they live, work and play very differently, and so how can the design industry really encompass all those facets of the folks that we're designing for?\"\u003cbr/\u003e              When it comes to the latest colour and material trends, warm grey and neutrals are proving popular. \u003cbr/\u003e              The 'Pantone Color of the Year 2018' - ultra violet - is also making an appearance.\u003cbr/\u003e              Popular materials include nickel, copper and bronze. For upholstery, it's velvet and suede.\u003cbr/\u003e              Scoviak says when it comes design, the trend is towards ultra-comfort. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The idea is that when you walk into a hotel, you feel comfortable,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's an experience, but it's also an inspirational experience. So, it's probably not going to hit you over the head, it's going to be subtle and the textures are going to be things that you want to sit on. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"You're not going to go to a restaurant and think; 'I can't wait to get up off this chair because it's woolly and it's scratchy and it's awful.' It's all about the guest. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The guest wants to feel that everything in that hotel is curated to his or her taste.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Another important trend in hotels is using repurposed materials and designs focused on adaptive re-use.\u003cbr/\u003e              There are materials such as re-used woods and old denim jeans that have been turned into flooring and table tops. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"Sustainability and using repurposed materials is a big trend in our industry,\" says Jeff Southwell, the owner of Oregon-based TorZo Sustainable Surfaces.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"And so what we do is we take different materials, such as denim, that is collected from jean manufacturing facilities and made into a composite board that we infuse with an acrylic polymer and also sorghum straw, which is a repurposed material from the agricultural industry, and we infuse those with acrylic polymer so that we can make interior surfaces that are used in transition tops, bar tops table tops, paneling and a wide variety of applications.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              When it comes to luxury, a current trend in hospitality design is the use of crystals in almost every which way.\u003cbr/\u003e              Rhode Island-based Orion HD is an architectural and design fabricator that works with Austrian crystal company Swarovski.\u003cbr/\u003e              They put crystals into fixtures, tables, walls, and lighting for the hospitality, design and event industries. \u003cbr/\u003e              The two companies worked together to decorate the stage at this year's Academy Awards with over 45 million Swarovski crystals.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They're using crystals in architecture to bring luxury, to bring texture and light into design, especially with lighting,\" says Laura Keitlen, marketing and business development director at Orion HD.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's very important for modern lighting design and doing something special, just like we saw at the Oscars with the gorgeous design by Derek McLane, where it lit up the whole stage like a big geode, that type of look. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"Doing something interesting on a surface, just to really bring that luxury and that glamour into your hotel or into your home is what we are seeing is important with crystal.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The BD West hospitality design conference and trade show ran 4-5 April at Los Angeles Convention Center.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Los Angeles, California, US - 5 April 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
