The sinkhole opened up next to construction site where workers were building an underground railway tunnel. Workers from the construction site noticed the ground subsiding shortly before the collapse occurred and raised the alarm. According to Reuters, \"Around 300 residents from the surrounding area were evacuated and nearby roads closed off before the surrounding three buildings in the complex collapsed later that evening, China Central Television (CCTV) added. CCTV said that so far no one has been reported injured or killed in either collapse.\" This animation explains how natural sinkholes form and how construction can contribute to the collapse of a sinkhole.\n
