Google's Waymo fleet is to be supplemented with 20...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              Google's self driving car division fought hard to shake off fears over the safety of autonomous cars, as it announced a new partnership with Jaguar.\u003cbr/\u003e              Google's Waymo fleet is to be supplemented with 20 thousand of Jaguar's all electric iPace saloons as the company seeks to expand its autonomous car transportation service.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              With so much being asked about the safety and direction of autonomous cars, Waymo's CEO is keen to project absolute confidence in the Google self driving product Waymo.\u003cbr/\u003e              Today's announcement is all about the company's new premier addition to its fleet of self driving vans and cars.\u003cbr/\u003e              Waymo is agreeing to buy 20,000 of Jaguar's forthcoming iPace electric SUVs between this year and 2022 for its ride-hailing service. \u003cbr/\u003e              CEO John Krafcik is keen to stress safety is the prime concern of the company, especially one looking to expand its self driving transportation service.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We have been working on this at Google now as Waymo for over nine years nearly a decade and we do like to consider it the world's longest ongoing driving test, and we spend so much time focused on making sure this technology is right. Through all of that on road testing,  over five million miles of on road autonomous testing, the five billion miles in simulation, the twenty thousand different scenarios that we put our car through and the technology through, to ensure that it's safe. So we do have that level of confidence that we're putting on the road is safe technology and it's only going to get better. I think a really important point to keep in mind with the drivers that we're building, is that each car shares all of that knowledge. And when we make a change in our software it improves not just the one car.\" \u003cbr/\u003e              Krafcik is referring to the fact that the Waymo software learns on its own experiences and shares what it learns with the rest of the cars in the fleet.\u003cbr/\u003e              Krafcik emphasised the Google investment in the safety of the transportation system. Their simulator he says has banked the experience equivilent to twenty five thousand cars driving every hour of every day.\u003cbr/\u003e              The aim was to leave no doubt that although the car was new, its driving experience could compete with anyone.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Now to put that into perspective for you, those 20,000 self driving vehicles conserve about a million trips in a single day. Even though these cars are new, they're building nearly a decade of self driving  experience, first there's Google and now there's Waymo. They'll be equipped with Waymo's technology, the world's most experienced driver, with the most powerful sensors and AI software in the world,\" Krafcik assures.\u003cbr/\u003e              Today's stage isn't the only one the Jaguar iPace has been on in recent weeks. Just a short time ago Jaguar was keen to sing its creditials at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.\u003cbr/\u003e              The car was launched as a concept car in 2016 and since then Jaguar has steadily announced more and more details and features of the car.\u003cbr/\u003e              The car has a range of 480 kilometers and can be charged from zero to 80 percent in 40 minutes.\u003cbr/\u003e              The i-Pace was designed from scratch to be an electric car and Jaguar is hoping that the model will take it to the forefront of electric car technology.\u003cbr/\u003e              CEO Ralf Speth explains the need for the collaboration between Jaguar and Waymo: \"Moving the required boundaries of technology cannot be done in isolation by a single company anymore. Breakthroughs, progress can only be made when governments, academia and the industry across many sectors work closer together.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              He adds: \"With Waymo, the iPace will become the first fully electric self driving luxury SUV in history.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Both men deflected persistant questions about the security of the technology from potential hackers, but along with safety, that is a subject unlikely to disappear.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              New York, US - 27 March 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
