It's hopeless. Since the first day you entered the camp until now - nothing has changed, has it? Have they given you anything? A car? Air-conditioning? Electricity?\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Hundreds of thousands of Yazidi voters remain stuck in hopeless camps, while their home towns and villages, although secured, are ruined and have no public services.\u003cbr/\u003e              Many Yazidi voters say that even at the best of times they feel marginalised in the rough-and-tumble of Iraqi politics. Candidates say that apathy is the biggest obstacle that they have to surmount among the prospective voters. \u003cbr/\u003e              Candidate Sabah Jibour Khadar says following events of the past few years the Yazidis are very uncertain about how they are going to vote.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Certainly Daesh (Islamic State group) has affected the Yazidi voters psychologically. Many families live in this camp with orphaned kids, we have widows who have lost their husbands, and others who have lost their wives. We have also people who had to live under Daesh for a long time, men and women. All these psychological factors have actually affected the Yazidi voters. I met some of them here and they told me, they were not going to vote because it didn't help them before,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              In the last Iraqi parliamentary election in 2014, 40 Yazidi candidates competed for one ethnic quota seat and regular seats. \u003cbr/\u003e              They were overwhelmingly distributed among the traditional forces of Kurdish politics, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), but also the Gorran (Change) movement. Between them they won two seats. \u003cbr/\u003e              Now there are more than 50 candidates, and while the KDP and the PUK are still the biggest factions, Arab Iraqi parties are also fielding candidates and there are several Yazidi lists as well. \u003cbr/\u003e              The massacres and kidnappings, which the Kurdistan Regional Government was unable to prevent, turned many voters away from traditional Kurdish parties. \u003cbr/\u003e              Analysts say that the tragedies have even led to the strengthening of a distinct Yazidi identity, for many previously a subset of Kurdish identity. \u003cbr/\u003e              Most Yazidis speak Kurdish as their first language but unlike Kurds they are not Sunni Muslims, but follow a distinct religious tradition. \u003cbr/\u003e              Former member of the Kurdish regional parliament, Eido Baba Sheikh, says this new-found political activism, at least among the political class, will not necessarily lead to stronger Yazidi representation because the large number of candidates will likely split their vote. \u003cbr/\u003e              He says he thinks a better way of giving voice to Yazidi voters is raising the number of guaranteed quota seats, currently only one.\u003cbr/\u003e              Hajji Hassan is a displaced person from Sinjar currently living at Shekhan.\u003cbr/\u003e              He says it is time the Yazidis came together.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's been three parliaments now (since the fall of Saddam Hussein) and nothing has changed for us because we are not unified.
