It will bring significantly faster...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEAD IN:\u003cbr/\u003e              The 5G network will start to be rolled out in selected areas around the world this year, according to experts at the Mobile World Congress trade fair in Barcelona.\u003cbr/\u003e              It will bring significantly faster data speeds and lower latency compared to the current 4G system, opening up possibilities for remote-controlled machinery, robotics and consumer products such as 360 degree live streaming.\u003cbr/\u003e              \u003cbr/\u003e              STORY-LINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              This is \"Hans the Robot\" and he is a hit at the Ericsson pavilion of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.\u003cbr/\u003e              The man on the screen is actually an engineer sitting in a studio nearby, and he is controlling the robot via a local 5G network that has been set up around the pavilion.\u003cbr/\u003e              A standard 4G network would not have been suitable. \u003cbr/\u003e              The video would have had a delay and the controlling of the robot would have been difficult.\u003cbr/\u003e              It is down to the speed of the 5G network, but also the latency - that is the speed that it takes for the network to respond when a command is given.\u003cbr/\u003e              With 5G a command is executed almost instantly, while on the 4G network there is a lag - meaning large machines like \"Hans the Robot\" would be difficult to control.\u003cbr/\u003e              At this year's MWC trade fair there is a great deal of talk about 5G.\u003cbr/\u003e              After several years of engineering and setting standards, the network will go live for the first time in small geographical areas.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We already launched 5G ready products. So we have a lot of the hardware out there already. And what we are doing this year is really to bring the software ready for the 5G launches. So by the end of this year, we will see the first launches of live 5G networks. So, definitely, the year when 5G happens,\" says David Hammarwall, head of 5G at the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson.\u003cbr/\u003e              Also shown at the Ericsson pavilion is a miniature model of a building site.\u003cbr/\u003e              The machines are all controlled by a man wearing Virtual Reality headsets and using a joystick, controlling the machines via 5G.\u003cbr/\u003e              The same principle could be used by large machines, operated by many engineers sitting in an office far away from the building site.\u003cbr/\u003e              When people talk about 5G they usually talk about the speed that consumers will be able to download data.\u003cbr/\u003e              Smartphones with 5G will be able to download and upload data 20 times faster than phones using the 4G network.\u003cbr/\u003e              But it might be in the tech industry, especially with connected gadgets and cars, where we notice the biggest change.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"A lot of folks are excited about those faster speeds. A 5G phone is interesting but realistically there is not that much you could do with that insane amount of speed,\" says Roger Cheng, editor of CNET.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think the bigger benefit you are going to see are things like smart cities. The idea of 5G being the foundation for self-driving cars, helping with telemedicine. There are a lot of different aspects where 5G can change your life, change the way you live your life, and everything around you.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              \"But again, that's going to take many years for these networks to be properly deployed and the services to start rolling out.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The rollout of the 5G networks this year will be localised to parts of cities in Asia, North America and Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e              A large-scale rollout will still take several years as equipment needs to be replaced or updated.\u003cbr/\u003e              South Korea is one of the countries which expects to see live 5G networks in certain places this year.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The most distinctive feature is the faster speed. It is at least going to be 20 GBS (Gigabytes per second), which is at least 20 times better than what we have today,\" says  Jong Han Park, SK Telecom (South Korea) 5G Core Network Architect.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"But the system also supports very low latency and helps us offer a lot of safety and convenience-related services like the 5G connected car as you can see here. And also, it will remove all the wires from our everyday lives.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              As more and more smartphones connect to the 4G network, using more and more data, it is also becoming urgent to replace the system in the next few years.\u003cbr/\u003e              Live streaming of films, video chats, and all those videos of cats on YouTube take up a lot of data when streamed.\u003cbr/\u003e              As more and more consumers demand higher resolutions and services like 360-degree video calls, the 4G network will struggle to handle the data volume, says Hammarwall.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"In the current LTE networks the problem is that traffic is growing very rapidly,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"In order to maintain a good service you actually need to build more capacity.
