Strache was addressing a news conference in Belgrade after talks with Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic....\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eAustrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache said on Monday that the status of Kosovo still remains unresolved.\u003cbr/\u003e              Strache was addressing a news conference in Belgrade after talks with Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic.\u003cbr/\u003e              He said that although Austria recognised Kosovo's independence in 2008, over 80 other nations, including Serbia, had not.\u003cbr/\u003e              Strache urged both sides to work respectfully and peacefully towards a sustainable solution, in order to improve their chances at joining the European Union.\u003cbr/\u003e              The EU has warned Balkan countries hoping to join the bloc that none will be invited until they have resolved all disputes with their neighbours.\u003cbr/\u003e              The prospect of EU membership has been a powerful incentive for reform in the region, which was torn apart by war in the 1990s, but tensions still linger. \u003cbr/\u003e              Serbia and Montenegro, the latter a member of NATO, are well-placed to join should the 28-nation bloc open its doors again to new members. \u003cbr/\u003e              The EU Commission said that Serbia and Montenegro could be allowed in by around 2025 if they meet all the conditions.\u003cbr/\u003e              For Serbia that includes finalising a \"comprehensive, legally binding normalisation agreement\" with Kosovo, which unilaterally declared independence a decade ago.\u003cbr/\u003e              Dacic said on Monday that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina must continue, and solutions and compromises must be found for a lasting resolution of the issue.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Belgrade - 12 February 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1. I stated that the Republic of Austria also made a decision in 2008, to recognise the declaration of independence of Kosovo. That also is the official Austrian position. However, it shows in this internationally, still unresolved situation, according to United Nations Resolution 12.44, where, of 193 states only 105 countries so far have recognised the declaration of independence by Kosovo and more than 80 haven't, that the real-political legal status still is one that has ultimately not been resolved.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              5. And for that you need to move closer to each other and that's what I demand in a positive way, because we want sustainable, peaceful cooperation and not procrastination over the problems for decades and generations and therefore the inability to solve them sustainably.
