He said the migrants were beaten by smugglers and given food only once in 24 hours. \u003cbr/\u003e              He pleaded for help from the Libyan government and international humanitarian organisations. \u003cbr/\u003e              Medical staff at the detention centre are carrying out medical checks on the migrants and providing treatment for those who are unwell.\u003cbr/\u003e              But they say their resources are meager. \u003cbr/\u003e              Dr. Ismail Al-Aidha, Director of Kufra Health Services, said the city is being overwhelmed by the scale of the migration and appealed for more assistance.\u003cbr/\u003e              He said the centre relies on the local doctors, but the medical capacities of the town are overstretched. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"There are more than 60-thousand people - the local citizens within the city of Kufra. In addition, there is the presence of a large number of illegal migrants, and we share with them the only hospital,\" Dr. Al-Aidha said. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"There is suffering, there are diseases,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003e              First Lieutenant Mohamed Al-Fadhil, Head of the Kufra detention centre, said many migrants have serious diseases, and suffer from malnutrition and anemia.\u003cbr/\u003e              Libya has become a hub for people from sub-Saharan Africa who want to attempt the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e              The issue of illegal immigration has been exacerbated since 2011, as smugglers take advantage of the chaos that prevails in Libya to attempt to transport tens of thousands of migrants each year towards Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e              Kufra is located 1,100 kilometres (685 miles) south of Benghazi.\u003cbr/\u003e              Many migrants are likely to be held in the detention centre for weeks or even months before a decision is made on whether they will be deported back to their countries of origin.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Kufra - 5 February 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              ++AUDIO AS INCOMING++\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
