STORY-LINE:              Saws, drills...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEAD IN: \u003cbr/\u003e              A workshop in Jerash Camp in Jordan is teaching Palestinian refugees carpentry.\u003cbr/\u003e              They plan to use their new skills to run a rooftop farm.\u003cbr/\u003e              \u003cbr/\u003e              STORY-LINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              Saws, drills and hammers - a group of Palestinian refugees are learning them all at a workshop in Jordan.\u003cbr/\u003e              They've come to a carpentry session in Jerash Camp.\u003cbr/\u003e              This lesson should give them the basics of working with wood.\u003cbr/\u003e              They are hoping to use these skills to run an upcoming rooftop farm that the association 'Greening the Camps' has planned for the camp.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I am so curious and interested in learning how to make these things because it is the base of our work in Greening the Camp, because we will be recycling things,\" says 20-year-old Palestinian Mourad Bassam. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"We are using wood, I like to work with wood. It is a hobby but a hobby I am hoping to use in my daily life.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              This workshop has been organised by the One Love Initiative, which aims to improve the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Jordan, alongside Greening the Camps.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Today's workshop will allow them to have a skill that they can work with to empower them and perhaps generate income for them,\" says Hiba Khoury, co-founder of One Love Initiative.\u003cbr/\u003e              The group of 20 is making simple boxes, using just a few pieces of wood and carefully positioned nails.\u003cbr/\u003e              And Bassam already has ideas about how they should be used.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Grow some small herbs such like mint, as we call it in our language, maramia (sage), Za'atar, (mix of oregano, basil, thyme), something like that.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              In further sessions they will be taught to build plant pots and chairs as well as work in the upcoming rooftop farm.\u003cbr/\u003e              Jerash camp was first set up in 1968 for about 12,000 Palestinian refugees who left the Gaza Strip as a result of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. \u003cbr/\u003e              It is home to 30,000 people today, according to UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and is the poorest of the Palestinian camps in Jordan.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Jerash, Jordan - 12 January 2018\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
