Since his fellow male Suni died in 2015, the fate of the northern white rhino species rests on Sudan's shoulders.\u003cbr/\u003e              There are no other northern white rhinos left in the world. All others have been killed for their horns and hunted to brink of extinction by poachers. \u003cbr/\u003e              At six feet tall and weighing around 2,300 kilograms, Sudan is often described as the \"most eligible bachelor in the world\" as he's the only male left.  \u003cbr/\u003e              His keeper at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Zachariah Mutai says armed guards protect Sudan around the clock. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"This is where you can find the last three northern white rhinos on the planet and they need to be well saved so all the time they are cared for 24 hours a day with armed rangers.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Being the only male of his species, the Ol Pajeta Conservancy teamed up with a public relations company to launch a fundraising campaign.  The money raised is to help pursue an IVF breeding programme that scientists hope will save the species. \u003cbr/\u003e              They listed Sudan on dating app Tinder last year, giving people the option to donate money when they opened his profile which described him as liking to \"chill in the mud.\" \u003cbr/\u003e              Elodie Sampere, Head Marketer at Ol Pejeta Conservancy says the international campaign has helped raise awareness about the plight of the rhinos. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"So, you know in terms of media coverage, and the amount of attention we got out of it, it was amazing. I mean for example our website crashed in the first three hours. We launched a campaign because we had so many hits on the website that we couldn't handle that. In terms of the money raised, we were aiming to raise about a million dollars and we raised about 85 thousand dollars which was a bit disappointing, we were really hoping to raise more money than that. But in terms of publicity and putting Sudan (Northern White Rhino) on the map or people understanding what's going on with rhinos, I think it was a great success.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The Tinder campaign has been well received across Kenya and it's sparked a new legion of younger campaigners keen to save the animals. \u003cbr/\u003e              Kenyan Entrepreneur Bboy Harriy was prompted to donate after seeing Sudan's Tinder profile, but says more still needs to be done. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think the government needs to play a very huge role in supporting and at least pumping more money. Tinder has been very successful now in creating and raising the awareness more but we need more stakeholders and players to actually come in and support this IVF on Sudan.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Sudan got his name from his origin of birth, South Sudan. Born in 1973 and captured in 1975, he was taken to a zoo in the Czech Republic where he stayed in captivity for decades. \u003cbr/\u003e              He was brought back to Africa in 2009 for breeding together with three other rhinos - his current companions Fatu and Najin and the late male, Suni.\u003cbr/\u003e              The rhinos are protected, fed and groomed, and they seem to have forged good relationships with the keepers and guards.\u003cbr/\u003e              Sudan is keen to mate, but there's a problem. At 44 years old, he's not as strong as he used to be.\u003cbr/\u003e              His semen quality is not the best and neither is his ability to mount naturally.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Sudan right now has a problem with the hind legs as you can see him. The hind legs have got weak joints for now of which he cannot mount a female,\" says Mutai.\u003cbr/\u003e              Previous attempts to breed the rhinos have failed, so now the keepers are pursuing IVF and artificial insemination options.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The problem is that it has never been done in rhinos and it's a very complicated process and it's also very dangerous, not for the male obviously, but for the females because we need to extract their eggs and while the extraction is happening, they could be killed or they could be endangered so there is a team in Europe that is working on the technique and they are getting better and better at it, it hasn't been fully perfected yet, but they are getting there so we are hoping in the next year or two, they will be able to extract the eggs from the female. Then they will create an embryo, the embryo will then be put back in a Southern White Rhino female which will serve as a surrogate. So its a really complicated process, lots of people have put their heads together all over the world. The hope here is not just to have one calf but to have 10, so we have a viable herd that can then reproduce on its own and basically bring the species back from the brink of extinction,\" says Elode. \u003cbr/\u003e              It's a costly process that is expected to cost around one million dollars per any calf born - around 10 million dollars for 10 calves. \u003cbr/\u003e              Rhinos are native to South Sudan, Congo, Central Africa Republic and Chad, countries that have witnessed years of civil wars making conservation efforts futile.\u003cbr/\u003e              This subspecies has been decimated by poachers who kill them for their horns. \u003cbr/\u003e              The horns are in high demand in parts of Asia, where some people claim they have medicinal properties for treating everything from hangovers to cancer.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Nanyuki, Kenya - 3 August 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
