A range of concepts are giving consumers a glimpse into the future of driverless vehicles.                        ...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEAD IN:\u003cbr/\u003e              Autonomous cars are taking centre stage at the North American International Auto Show. \u003cbr/\u003e              A range of concepts are giving consumers a glimpse into the future of driverless vehicles. \u003cbr/\u003e              \u003cbr/\u003e              STORY-LINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              This autonomous concept car on display in Detroit is hoping to put you in the passenger seat.\u003cbr/\u003e              Automotive seating manufacturer, Adient is aiming to make autonomous travel more relaxing, and productive.\u003cbr/\u003e              Adient believes that with the control of the car now in the hands of technology, there is little need for cumbersome controls surrounding the occupant. \u003cbr/\u003e              Richard Chung, Adient'a Vice President of Innovation and Design says all the activities that take place in the vehicle are non-driving related. \u003cbr/\u003e              By making the seats in the car highly adaptable, passengers can recline, swivel and stretch out in a fully reclined position. \u003cbr/\u003e              In addition to the seats keeping you comfortable, they can also monitor your health.\u003cbr/\u003e              Integrated bio-metric sensors in the seat can monitor heart rate and breathing patterns, the company says. It even hopes to monitor blood pressure in the future. \u003cbr/\u003e              The biometric data can then be sent to medical personnel while the car is in use. \"It becomes a mini clinic,\" Chung says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Meanwhile Fiat Chrysler's Jeep brand is giving the Cherokee compact SUV a major face-lift so it can better compete in one of the hottest parts of the U.S. automotive market.\u003cbr/\u003e              The 2019 Cherokee, unveiled Tuesday (16th January 2018) gets styling tweaks, a new engine, suspension improvements and engineering changes that save 200 pounds and improve gas mileage over the current model.\u003cbr/\u003e              The updated Cherokee gets a new 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 270 horsepower and technology that shuts it down at stoplights to save fuel. \u003cbr/\u003e              It's similar to the engine in Alfa Romeo sports cars. A 3.2-liter V6 and 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine carry over from the current model. A polymer tailgate is among the changes that help save 200 pounds.\u003cbr/\u003e              When the latest-generation Cherokee came out in 2013, its curvy front grille departed from the normal flat Jeep front-end with round headlamps. That angered some Jeep purists who love the old look.\u003cbr/\u003e              Jeep took a step toward the old front-end, giving the 2019 model a larger grille, combining LED headlamps and daytime running lights and adding a new hood and fender design.\u003cbr/\u003e              Fiat Chrysler wouldn't say the exact on-sale date for the revised Cherokee. The company says it will release fuel mileage and pricing later.\u003cbr/\u003e              Meanwhile, General Motors says it expects strong sales in North America and China to sustain its profit through 2018.\u003cbr/\u003e              The automaker reaffirmed its 2017 expectations for profit between US$6 and $6.50 per share and said it expects similar results in 2018. \u003cbr/\u003e              The company also cited cost cutting and growth in other units, including GM Financial, as factors in maintaining profit.\u003cbr/\u003e              In 2017, GM sold its Opel/Vauxhall and GM Financial European units and cut business in parts of Africa and India.
