With an...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEAD IN:\u003cbr/\u003e              Despite areas of Tunisia being rich in phosphate, many locals are still struggling to find work.\u003cbr/\u003e              Young people are often feel forced to venture to Europe in the hope of employment.\u003cbr/\u003e              With an increase in protests and a lack of youth, the phosphate processing plants are forced to reduce operations.\u003cbr/\u003e              \u003cbr/\u003e              STORY-LINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              Redayef is one of the top cities in Tunisia for phosphate production.\u003cbr/\u003e              But it also boasts the second highest unemployment rate in the country - reaching 52.97 in 2014.\u003cbr/\u003e              Protests have been held over recent years, calling for development and employment in the area.\u003cbr/\u003e              However, these protests have also interrupted the phosphate production. \u003cbr/\u003e              This processing plant has ground to a halt.\u003cbr/\u003e              Meanwhile in the city, home to 26,000 people, there is a distinct lack of youth on the streets. \u003cbr/\u003e              Groups of unemployed young men spend the day in cafes, desperate for work.\u003cbr/\u003e              Mohamed Tababi smokes one of many cigarettes.\u003cbr/\u003e              He is an unemployed senior technician who says that work is only given if people meet certain conditions, and they discriminate against young people in particular.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It does not depend on the measure of efficiency, but relies on several points such as the age and civil status and the number of children and many other conditions.\" \u003cbr/\u003e              He also says people in the area believe that the phosphate production has a major impact on their health.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It is difficult to have a family without one of them suffering from cancer. The effect of polluted water is also found on the teeth of most young people, yellowing at an early age because the washing water. Phosphates damage the water table prepared for drinking because the wastewater used in washing phosphates has many other uses in the city.\" \u003cbr/\u003e              Many young people feel they are discriminated against because they have earned high degrees while the work at the processing plant is strictly manual.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"As a young Tunisian man, I want to leave Tunisia for Europe as soon as possible. There are no special solutions, because we have had many demonstrations and strikes but in vain. When we demonstrate demanding the right of employment, they blame us as we have high (university) degrees,\" says Bilel Marzougui, an unemployed industrial computer engineer.\u003cbr/\u003e              He hopes to travel to Europe, like many before him, in order to secure work.\u003cbr/\u003e              Despite the risks involved, both in the journey to and arrival in Europe, Marzougui says it is better than staying here.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"No matter what awaits us in Europe, it is always better than our reality. I feel better being humiliated in a foreign country than feeling humiliated in my mother country. You see that we do not get out of here and we sit all day feeling despair and helplessness and it is difficult to see a smile on the faces of young people.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Six years after the fall of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, successive governments have been unable to kick-start development in the country.\u003cbr/\u003e              Unemployment is high - it stood at 15.5 percent at the end of last year, with the rate climbing to 30 percent among high school graduates, according to the Institute of Statistics, a governmental body.\u003cbr/\u003e              With little improvement seen in places like Redayef, the youth have a warning for those in power:\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I send a message to politicians not to lie and give false promises to the marginalised youth and that the situation will not last so.
